Anti-Aging: When Is the Right Time to Start Injectables and Fillers?

The American Society of Plastic Surgeons recognizes the upswing in the number of non-surgical anti-aging treatments. These procedures are attractive because they have little or no downtime at all. Their results are quick as well. Experts say that there is a right age to get injectables and dermal fillers. If you want to find out when you should get these non-surgical anti-aging treatments, here’s what you should know.

For Injectables

Botox® is a common example of injectables. It is a prescription medication that your doctor injects into your facial muscles. Botox aims to lighten your wrinkles through temporary facial muscle paralysis. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved the use of Botox on patients who are at least 18 years old. Even so, if you start getting Botox treatments before or during your 20s, your skin may develop an early resistance. This could reduce the effects of Botox. If you see dynamic wrinkles while frowning or smiling, it is a natural thing. It is not a reason for getting Botox. You should start this treatment the moment you start noticing fine lines when your face is resting. Using Botox as a wrinkle preventative is also an option. Make sure you maintain the injection treatments every 3-4 months to maximize the results. Just take note that Botox cannot remove deep wrinkles.

For Dermal Fillers

Fillers are hyaluronic acid-based, non-surgical treatments. Instead of relaxing your facial muscles, fillers bring back your skin’s suppleness and volume. These non-surgical anti-aging solutions eliminate creases, fine lines, and wrinkles by filling them. They are also becoming popular in improving the lips of younger adults. Experts say that you should start having dermal fillers when you’re about 26 years old. Your goal at this stage would be to maintain wrinkle-free facial skin. The lines and creases at this age are easier to treat than those of anyone who reaches 60.

Juvéderm® is a popular dermal filler that is made up of several fillers. Below are the popular fillers under Juvéderm:

·  Juvéderm Ultra XC. Surgeons use this in the perioral area and the lips.

·  Juvéderm Voluma™ XC. This is a deep injection administered into your cheeks.

· Juvéderm Volbella XC. This filler can augment your lips.

·  Juvéderm XC Vollure™ XC. This targets your folds and facial wrinkles.

Factors That Influence the Appearance of Wrinkles

You can also start your injectable or filler treatments when you are at least 40 years old. By this time, your dermatologist can create an individualized treatment plan for you. The need for these non-surgical skin treatments is primarily influenced by aging. Other factors are excessive exposure to UV (ultraviolet) radiation, smoking, always staying up too late, or poor skincare practices. These may help convince you to have these solutions earlier.

Determining the right age for having injectables or dermal fillers is up to you. But it is always best not to start getting them if you’re still a teen or in your early 20s.
